Description

Common name: Stonecrop, sedum

This was a plant we originally named ‘Limelight’ but we have since identified it as likely to be Hylotelephium maximum (syn. Sedum maximum) Propagated over the years from plants that were already in the garden. Like all the Sedums it thrives on dry free draining soils.

H. maximum covers the ground quite vigorously with large fleshy leaves all year that appear to be pretty much evergreen. Flower stems often have a red tint, and the flowers open a creamy lime colour with hints of pink as it fades. Plants prefer full sun, though the foliage does very well in dry shade too. This plant makes an effective groundcover under deciduous trees, but rarely forms flowers in shade.
