A genus of hardy evergreen or deciduous perennials. Most are endemic to China. The majority of species have spider-like flowers in spring.
E. x versicolor ‘Sulphureum’ is a gorgeous evergreen hardy plant for the woodland garden (maybe semievergreen in the coldest parts of the country). The lovely heart shaped leaves cover the plant all year round. The green leaves are flushed with red particularly as they mature. Clouds of beautiful two-toned cream and yellow flowers are carried in open sprays in spring.
