Description
Common names: great masterwort, Hattie’s pincushion
Astrantia is a winter dormant perennial native to southern Europe and now naturalized in many parts of Europe. Its natural habitat is mountain meadows and grasslands in forests and clearings close to streams. Particularly in the hotter drier plants of the country plants will grow and flower best with some shade and regular moisture. They will handle full sun as long as they have moisture.
Plants flower from summer over a long period into autumn particularly if flowers are cut – they are lovely and long lasting as cut flowers. Flower colour is generally white though hints of greens and pinks are likely.
