The Ironweeds are particularly useful for late season colour and are very attractive to butterflies.

V. noveboracencis is native to the eastern United States. Plants form stiff upright stems carrying lance shaped dark green leaves. Plants can grow to 2 meters and flowering starts from late summer into autumn. Flowers are thistle-like pinky purple clusters. Great plants for the back of a border and naturalistic gardens. Plants generally prefer moisture retentive soils.
