Description
Common names: curry plant, Italian strawflower, immortelle
A native of the Mediterranean Helichrysum italicum is a tough woody perennial with soft silvery grey leaves. The plant has a scent of curry hence it’s name, but is not to be confused with the true curry tree- Murraya koenigii. The young shoots and leaves are used to flavour Mediterranean dishes, but are removed before serving. Clusters of soft yellow flowers are produced in summer. Flowers are a favourite of the little blue butterfly.
