The yellow coneflower is a North American species, native to southern Missouri, Arkansas, and south-central Oklahoma. It is listed as threatened in Arkansas.
It is a winter dormant perennial herb with multiple stems. The leaves look very similar to those of narrow leaved plantain, which can make identifying it when it appears in spring difficult if you have plantain in the garden (though plantain is evergreen) The tall flower stalks up to 80 cm produce long droopy yellow petals surrounding a dark cone center.
