Delphinium – light blue

Description

Delphinium are a genus of about 300 species of annual and perennial flowering plants in the Ranunculaceae family. They are native throughout the Northern hemisphere and the high mountains of Northern Africa.

Delphiniums have been long cultivated as garden plants particularly for providing height at the back of the summer border. Many cultivars and hybrids are available.

This Delphinium was originally from unnamed seed given to me. the Flower stalks of this variety grow to about 1 meter with gorgeous sky-blue flowers with white centers. Plants prefer moist fertile soil in sun or light shade. They do well in our sunny sheltered borders protected from the extreme afternoon sun and drying winds. Flowers have stayed upright and not needed staking. Particularly good as cut flowers and attractive to bees. Cutting encourages new flowers.
