Aquilegia are a genus of about 130 species of meadow and woodland perennials. Plants have clump forming rootstocks and ferny delicate looking foliage. Their delicate flowers balance on top of slender stems from mid-spring till almost mid-summer. Plants thrive best in the moist humusy soils associated with lightly shaded woodlands but will grow in open sunny positions with moisture.
The flowers of A. ‘Black Barlow’ are dark purple, almost black, fully double and without spurs.
