Common name: Honey spurge, Canary spurge
Native to Madeira and the Canary Islands. Euphorbia mellifera is an evergreen shrub growing up to 2.5 meters tall and broad. Plants are hardy, and require little maintenance. Plants will readily self-sow. This species produces interesting bronze flowers with a honey scent. It is very attractive to all kinds of pollinators and beneficial insects. Flowers are produced over a long period from late spring. In Autumn the lower leaves turn a gorgeous orange red colour.
All members of this genus produce a milky sap when cut or broken. Plants rarely need pruning, but gloves are recommended.
