Description
common name: giant scabious
Cephalaria are native to the Caucasus, Turkey, Central Asia and Iran. They are hardy clump forming perennials with tall erect stems and primrose coloured scabiosa like flowers. They are a close relation of the scabious family. The tall flowers give an airy appearance and are fantastic in wild, and mixed perennial plantings. Flower stems can grow to 2 meters. Support maybe needed in very exposed sites or in shaded areas. Plants have a deep root system. They grow best in well drained but moist soils.
