Valerian is native to Europe and Asia. It is a clump forming herb with lovely soft toothed green leaves. The long flower stalks -up to 1.5 meters- form during the summer and bear gorgeous umbels of sweetly scented tiny white to pale pink flowers.The flowers are very attractive to a range of beneficial garden insects such as Hoverflies and butterflies.

Plants do well in sun or light shade but prefer some moisture, and are not tolerant of extended dry periods. Plants will seed readily.
