Native to the cooler regions of Europe, Asia, and North America Sanguisorba officinalis is an herbaceous perennial traditionally growing in grasslands. They are clump forming rhizomatous perennials with attractive pinnate green leaves. Multiple long wiry stems form from mid-summer. Flowering from mid-summer to fall with gorgeous small dark maroon bottlebrush shaped flowers. They create an airy effect that works well with many perennials especially those in naturalistic and meadow style settings. Flowers are also useful for cutting. grow best with some summer moisture.
