Phygelius capensis is native to the high-altitude areas of South Africa, Lesotho, and Swaziland. Plants are evergreen sub-shrubs or woody perennials with dark green leaves. Flowering starts from late spring and can continue into Autumn. Flowers form on upright stalks. each flower is red and tubular with a yellow throat.
Plants do best in fertile moist soil with light shade in hotter parts of the country. Plants can be vigorous in mild wetter areas and spread by suckering.
