Description

Common name: Turkish sage, Jerusalem sage

Phlomis is a genus of over 100 species that include herbaceous perennials, subshrubs and shrubs. They are native to the Mediterranean central Asia and China.

P. russeliana is an evergreen perennial with hairy erect stems, and grey-green sage like leaves. The hooded yellow flowers develop in whorls up the strong upright stems during summer. The seedheads continue to add architectural interest in the garden throughout the winter months.  Plants make an effective groundcover forming dense mats of foliage. P. russeliana is moderately dry hardy once established.
