Description
Common names: Japanese rose, easter rose
Kerria is a hardy deciduous shrub that thrives in sun or shade, though intense full sun can bleach the flowers. It grows as a suckering shrub with arching stems to 1.8 meters. The stems are covered in golden yellow pompom flowers from early spring to late spring. Occasionally the odd flower appears in summer (there are about a dozen on mine at the beginning of February)
Plants are generally low maintenance. They will benefit from removing old stems after flowering- as they flower on new stems, and some removal of suckers if you wish to keep plants contained, though our very old plant (original to the old house, so well over 50 years) has never been pruned and flowers prolifically every year.
