Agastache foeniculum – Anise hyssop

Description

Common names: Anise hyssop, blue giant hyssop, lavender giant hyssop, fragrant giant hyssop

A fantastic pollinator plant native to much of North America. It is a winter dormant perennial in colder areas. Plants form strong clumps of aromatic foliage and spikes of lavender blue flowers up to 1.2 meters. Flowers appear from summer into autumn. Plants prefer good drainage in sun or light shade and average soils. They will handle some summer dry.

It can be difficult to tell these apart from some Agastache rugosa- such as A. ‘licorice blue’ and there are cultivars available that are crosses of A. rugosa and A. foeniculum. A. foeniculum appears to be taller and have more tolerance to dry conditions.
